Creative Development: Illustration

After deciding on my Statement of Intent, I brainstormed media combinations, an idea prompted by Gareth. I then experimented with inking and sketching styles. Many have been unsuccessful but I eventually landed on some that I liked. I also liked the idea of mixed media resolved digitally. After this I started world building and writing the plot of the book. I toyed with multiple different plots but decided the start based on what stories I enjoyed such as Spellslinger by Sebastien de Castell and the spiderwick chronicles illustrated by Toni DiTerlizzi. I only need the bare-bones and can narrow down specifics as necessary but eventually I came upon a general narrative and sub-narrative structure with the protagonist going through mental struggles while the narrator narrates the protagonists physical activities in a way misleading to the actual journey they are going through. This allows me to use both subtle and explicit narrative elements in my compositions/illustrations. The goblin illustration was nice, and enjoyable- but quite similar to how I had inked beforehand, so I wasn’t sure whether I should go further.
