Week 8 Reflection on Tutor Advice

I keep pushing further into developing illustration for myself and am now working on the ink bleeding effect digitally. In reflection, The technique works well but is still only a little offset from 2D, so for my final illustration I will look at how these textures can be warped out into an ‘immersive’ space.

Through talks with my tutors I have listened to their advice to push into new dimensions rather than just pushing my 2D visual voice. Kelcy is very enthusiastic about my use of the podcast alongside my visuals and audio editing for my showreel, something I share her excitement about but can’t develop much more until I have a better idea about my actual final illustration. In my final illustration I am interested in VR and it’s uses for abstract rotations in 3D space as encouraged by Gareth. I have no experience in anything relevant to those skills but will be pushing myself to utilise the new technology. The technology is limited to 3D experience only when wearing the headset but hopefully some of its dimensionality will be translated in the illustration from it. In exhibiting my work I have also contemplated using VR for that experience. This would allow for incredible darkness and atmosphere potentially.

I always have a more painful experience of developing into new areas than necessary so for this time I will try to prioritize essential elements (PowerPoint etc) then move on and just see how it goes at the time. The worst that happens is that it doesn’t work, but theres time at stake at this stage. I have found it hard to crack down on non-artistic work for long periods of time at an end, so pacing myself is key to getting the work done effectively. I will try to do this with multiple to-do lists and timetabling to make sure it all has a place.
